About this title
For so many people, the racial divide is an argument, a political position, a debate on TV. But keeping our distance isn’t working. The truth is that change starts here, with us. An NFL tight end for the Baltimore Ravens and a widely read and followed commentator on social media, Benjamin offers a look at both sides of the race debate and appeals to the power and possibility of faith as a step toward healing. Filled with personal stories and insights, Under Our Skin offers a bold new path toward healing the racial conflict of our world.
From the Back Cover: We live in a world divided.
And something needs to change.
Let’s admit it. When it comes to the topic of race, we all feel conflicted. In a world aflame with fallout from the racial divide in which shootings and brutalities dominate the nightly news, it can seem as if we’ll never move forward in unity. We’re angry, offended, sad, hopeless, and confused.
But can we also have hope?
Based on the groundbreaking book Under Our Skin by Baltimore Ravens tight end and social media commentator Benjamin Watson, this group conversation guide leads you through four weeks of honest and healing conversations about race, bias, and justice. In each session, you’ll face the issues head-on and discover how you can begin to make a difference by taking positive steps toward real change.
Benjamin Watson is a tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, a writer and speaker, and an often-read and widely followed commentator on social media. He won a Super Bowl ring in his rookie season with the New England Patriots and also played for the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints before signing with the Ravens in 2016. Watson was a 2015 Walter Payton Man of the Year finalist. He and his wife, Kirsten, have five children.
